Debbie Cation

Ephesians 5: 19 & 20 says, “Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.  Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The early church was a singing church, and I feel so blessed to be able to be a part of carrying on that tradition at First Christian.  From older, traditional hymns, to newer praise and worship music, all play a part in not only setting the tone for our worship service, but also to remind us of who we are, where we’ve been, our hope for the future, and the work with which we have been entrusted.  The beauty of music is that it can do all that with or without words.
Music has always been a huge part of my life.  As a young child, I learned to play the piano, and then studied cello and a little guitar.  I have had wonderful opportunities to play in small ensembles and large orchestras, to teach in private and group settings, and to lead music to all ages from preschool to adult. My music degree from Emporia State University helped establish a good foundation of knowledge, but I recognize my deep love for music as a wonderful gift from my Creator, and I am blessed to be able to share it with the help of a wonderful praise team and an incredibly supportive congregation.
